Switching gears a bit…

I know full well that with this blog of mine I am shouting into the void, or at best my voice is but one in a stadium cheering for the home team. It is not pointless, but I am not on the field or even on the bench. That’s ok. I write because I want to do what I can, or put another way, my duty.

I also share my thoughts with my tiny audience because it is therapeutic. Like sitting around the table with friends discussing the world’s problems. Its comforting.

My problem is that writing is not easy for me, and I find myself either not writing and feeling stressed about it, or feeling stressed while writing. At my age, this will not do!

So, I have decided that I am going to write when the mood or thought strikes me, write much shorter posts, not worry so much about my grammar, and start and finish each post in one sitting.

This is just an FYI, or as a Latinist friend of mine would say, Ut scias.

I have six wee bairns who are all seventh-generation Henry County, Tennessee, and all from the same doe. It is the people of Henry County that I most want to reach but I am writing to Southerners generally. I am without credentials but rather dare to speak by the same authority as the little boy who cried 'The king has no clothes!' My core belief and starting point is that like everything, we humans have a nature, it is not so hard to understand, and to pretend that it is other than it is, is to jump off a cliff. Which is what we Americans have in fact done.

  1. Thank you, Mark. Please keep writing. I recently learned of the Overton Window which is a model for understanding how ideas in society change over time and influence politics. If there is any hope of change in this world, we need your voice and many more who are willing to keep the conversation going.
